Adaptive Video Streaming Using TCP Factors Control with User Parameters

    Get PDF
AbstractMedia streaming over TCP has become increasingly popular because TCP's congestion control provides remarkable stability to the Internet. Streaming over TCP requires adapting to bandwidth availability and other network parameters in order to have a good users satisfaction. Nowadays the streaming video can be projected on different kind of terminal as tablet, smart phones, laptop.etc. Each device has its own characteristics and parameters which must be taken into consideration on the video streaming adaptation process. In this paper, we propose an adaptive video streaming solution to improve the quality of experience (QoE) of the users by adapting TCP parameters to the user parameters on mobile networks. We validate the models using the ns2 simulator

CDCS: a new case-based method for transparent NAT traversals of the SIP protocol

    Get PDF
Voice communications on IP networks use owner protocols as well as standards like SIP, MGCP and H323. In this paper we propose a new method for transparent traversal of NATed (Network Address Translated) networks for the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) protocol. Although SIP is an application layer protocol, its operation is affected by address translation. This is because SIP uses network layer information (source IP and source port) that is lost by the NAT operation. The suggested method adapts dynamically one of the three solutions: Connection-Oriented media STUN or TURN depending on the situation occurring during call initiation.Facultad de Informátic

A Mechanism for Void Avoidance in Real-Time Routing oriented Medical Applications

    Get PDF
To avoid the negative impact of void areas (i.e. holes)on medical application routing efficiency, we propose a neworiented void avoidance mechanism for wireless sensor networks embedded in medical environment. To choose the forwarding region (clockwise or anticlockwise) around the void, proposed mechanism is guided by the destination location with respect to the void. Our mechanism uses the right-hand rule to discover boundary nodes of the void and geometric formulas to obtain the forwarding region of a source node near the void. This node reduces its forwarding candidate set according to its already obtained forwarding region. Proposed approach is simple to implement, economic and could incorporate various other optimizations studies. Simulation results showed the effectiveness of the proposed mechanism which gives better performancecompared to traditional schemes

The 4G standard Long Term Evolution (LTE) has been developed for high-bandwidth mobile access for today's data-heavy applications, consequently, a better experience for the end user. Since cellular communication is ready available, LTE communication has been designed to work at high speeds for vehicular communication. The challenge is that the protocols in LTE/LTE-Advanced should not only provide good packet delivery but also adapt to changes in the network topology due to vehicle volume and vehicular mobility. It is a critical requirement to ensure a seamless quality of experience ranging from safety to relieving congestion as deployment of LTE/LTE-Advanced become common. This requires learning how to improve the LTE/LTE-Advanced model to better appeal to a wider base and move toward additional solutions. In this paper we present a feasibility analysis for performing vehicular communication via a queueing theory approach based on a multi-server queue using real LTE traffic. A M/M/m model is employed to evaluate the probability that a vehicle finds all channels busy, as well as to derive the expected waiting times and the expected number of channel switches. Also, when a base station (eNB) becomes overloaded with a single-hop, a multi-hop rerouting optimization approach is presented
